2013 NYIAS - Matt's Top 10 Unveilings
For anyone who has ever travelled to New York City in the spring, the feeling one gets once out in the open is like few others once the cold weather recedes and makes way for the warmer sunrays. The New York International Auto Show is much like the arrival of spring in the sense that it’s a send-off for the following model year. Yes, a New York Auto Show brings with it a clear and present picture of the very near future, and a glimpse of what is yet to come.
This is why what the NYIAS has to offer is critical fodder for us car peeps and you eager consumers and car nuts.
Here then are my top 10 unveils from the 2013 NYIAS:
This I did not expect from Toyota… The new 2014 Highlander actually has flair along with a dose of attitude. The mildly enhanced outer dimensions do wonders for the interior as well. The 3.5L V6 returns.

The all new 2014 Kia Soul is a classed-up version of the original and will be a hit. Its revised styling almost has some Range Rover in it, and its new dimensions and interior are greatly improved.

I’m a big fan of the new Nissan Pathfinder and the arrival of a hybrid version will make it that much more appealing. The supercharged 2.5L I4, along with 15 kW electric motor, should keep the drive interesting.

It’s hard to overlook and ignore a compact sedan that looks this good and sports a 354 hp turbocharged 2.0L 4-cylinder engine. With 4Matic AWD, the Mercedes CLA 45 AMG will be a true all-season performance machine.

Trying to stop Cadillac now is like trying to stop the tide in the Bay of Fundy; it cannot be done. The new CTS is stunning, regardless of the angle, and with its new-found dimensions it will cater to all luxury performance sedan buyers.

The 2014 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 has performance car junkies going nuts all over North America. There is nothing wrong with this car from its 500 hp LS7 V8 to its matte white colour. Damn, I want to drive this car!

I’m having a hard time with Acura; I don’t want to hate on their styling but it’s gotten to be quite bland. The new MDX looks like nothing more than a larger, non-descript RDX. However, I’m convinced it’ll do well and drive the same.

The new Range Rover Sport is bold, powerful and makes a statement without saying a word. The previous Sport was the envy of most other performance SUVs, but now the tables have turned in the Big Brit’s favour. Wow.

The Volvo V60 continues to make my head spin. Not only is this hot wagon coming our way but it will likely feature a turbocharged T6 4-cylinder engine good for well over 300 hp,. and AWD, and it’s a wagon! Did I say it was a station wagon?

The next Subaru WRX is always a big event. There are a few cars on this planet that generate such a following and the WRX is one of them. This concept addresses the physical shortcomings of the previous car and surely the performance will be epic.
